Women carry limited number of eggs and with the progressing reproductive years, the eggs lacks in quality and number. This decreases the chances of having baby by 3%-5% after the age of 30. The reduction in fertility is found to extend after the age of 40.
The glimpse of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
The Pelvic Inflammatory Disease exhibits infection of the female reproductive organs transmitted through sexual contact, when left untreated could cause problems like infertility, scarring and lifelong pain.
The infection goes undetected when symptoms are vague or don’t show. Pelvic inflammatory disease could affect 1 in 10 women with infertility.
The signs of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease cause fever, severe pain in the lower abdomen, chills, vaginal discharge with odour, abnormal bleeding, and pain when urinating or during intercourse.
The first treatment course includes Detoxification or Shodana Karma and high intensity herbo-mineral medication to clear the infection.
Ways to prevent Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is to get tested, using protection during sex, limitation of sexual partners, and douching.
What does Pelvic Inflammatory Disease mean?
The pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) comes from a bacterial infection that spreads from the vagina through the cervix to the fallopian tubes, uterus, and ovaries. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is caused by sexually transmitted diseases (STD) like gonorrhoea or chlamydia but can stem from the disruption of the normal state of bacteria in the vagina.
Almost 1 million women in this country are diagnosed with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease every year according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
When left untreated, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease leads to scarring of the fallopian tubes, a condition of tubal factor infertility causing 25% to 35% of female infertility.
The pelvic inflammatory disease can be difficult to identify but is an early detection key to preserve fertility. Having questions about PID?

The Pelvic inflammatory disease is caused due to unprotected sex leading to the transmission of Sexually Transmitted Disease that is the precursor to PID. Two main STDs causing pelvic inflammatory disease are Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia.
Other causes of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease are bacterial vaginosis (the change of the normal balance of bacteria present in the vagina), childbirth, frequent douching, miscarriage or abortion.
Who gets Pelvic Inflammatory Disease?
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) states the risk increases for woman having multiple sex partners, previous history of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, the sexually transmitted disease and a sex partner having multiple sex partners.

Test for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
There is no single test to detect pelvic inflammatory disease. The doctor performs a physical examination to detect, discuss the medical and sexual history.
In the pelvic exam, the doctor looks for signs of PID having abnormal discharge from the vagina or cervix, pus near the ovaries or fallopian tubes (known as an abscess), pain or tenderness in the reproductive organs.
In some cases, ultrasound or other imaging tests are ordered to examine the internal organs.
The doctor orders blood tests to check for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and the urinalysis to check for a urinary tract infection (UTI). The Pap smear is not used to diagnose pelvic inflammatory disease.
