What is the consequence of lack of sleep?

To ensure that the whole body system is nourished with the essential energy to take on the challenges of the new day, it is important to have good night sleep. Many people can be found to indulge in hectic late night schedule and get sleep for just 3-4 hours a night. It will only cause negative effects on their health like:
Mental Instability: Initial sleeping stage is Rapid Eye Movement (REM), where the person dreams, learning and memory is enhanced, while emotional health remains in top quality. But disruptions may cause problems with the nervous system affecting hormones, neurotransmitters, thereby impairing thinking, fight-flight response and reasoning, causing anxiety or depression.
Reduced immunity: Immunity falters and leads to weak body defences. Also emerges heart associated concerns, like stroke. Lack of sleep also causes viral infections and affects body’s ability to fight existing illness. Serious health issues like diabetes, obesity, etc. are also faced.
Weight gain: Weight & sleep are considered to be inversely co-related, which means with less sleep, there is gain in weight. This is because of irregularities faced in hormonal balance, since lack in sleep affects hunger and appetite. Consuming calories in huge amount at night leads to obesity.
Accidents: Speed bumps have been introduced to ensure that people stay awake while driving. Accidents take place because of drivers experiencing sleep deprivation, thus causing dangers during travel for everyone concerned. Sleep deprivation is known to have similar effects like that of alcohol consumption.
Relationship stress: Lack of sleep or Insomnia also leads to overarching moodiness, disturbing intimate relationship. The person may also indulge in baseless conflicts which could have been avoided if proper sleep had been derived. With lack of sleep, body gets into survival mode, meaning basic functions like food consumption or urination including superfluous activities like giving time to partner is avoided.
Hence, it is crucial to have 8 to 9 hours of good night sleep to attain physical and emotional rest.
