Several reasons are cited for women to face low sex drive as they age. This may be due to many physical problems experienced by them. However, the severe medical issues associated with it are disorders affecting the nervous (neural) system or nerve damage like stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and diabetes.

Why low sex drive?

The genetalia region will not be supplied with proper blood flow, if there is experienced poor circulation, thus making arousal difficult. It can however, inhibit natural lubrication, thereby making intercourse unpleasant and painful. It may be also due to liver disorders, STDs and UTI (Urinary Tract Infections). These conditions only will be aggravated with frequent alcohol consumption, smoking and aging.

When arousing sexual interesting is concerned, hormones do play a vital part. Any hormonal imbalance is only likely to affect sex drive. Moreover, women experiencing or nearing menopause stage are postnatal or pregnant or had partial or full hysterectomy will face low sex drive. This is because of prolactin and estrogen hormone fluctuation.

Even specific medications like anti-depressants, blood pressure pills and birth control pills may cause low libido and hormonal imbalance. With age, women face declining Androgens like testosterone.

The other common causes cited for reduced sexual desire are inactivity and excess weight. Many mental and physical issues arise due to being overweight, including insecurity, dispersion, fatigue along with heart strain, breathing difficulties and high cholesterol. All combined, or any of them may have negative impact upon sex drive in women. However, libido and overall well being can be improved significantly with twenty minute walk in the park or exercising.

Emotional and psychological issues may also cause low sex drive. Increasing stress is stated to be a common complaint across the globe. Stressful situations are likely to affect lives in every department. Relationship or marital problems, life crisis, financial struggles, problems at work, anxiety, religious repression, excess weight, guilt, etc are some other factors that may cause stress, thereby declining sexual interest.

How to treat the issue?

Although numerous medical options are present that claim to enhance low sex drive, it will be essential to check out the current lifestyle, eating and personal habits. Besides frequent exercise, several spices and foods are present that can make the person healthier, feel better, enhance the mood and also raise the libido. A well balanced, low fat diet like the cold water fish salmon, plenty of vegetables will do great. Also it will be useful to avoid sodas, junk foods, starchy and high sugar foods.
