Infertility is the failure to conceive even after a year of unprotected sex or the failure to carry pregnancy to its full term. Often infertile couples seek In-Vitro Fertilization for conceiving a child. However, not all IVF treatments are successful. Many a times, IVF failures occur, resulting in an inability to conceive (implantation failure) or repeated pregnancy loss following IVF.
IVF failure can be very much stressful both for the patient and the doctor. Trying repeated IVF is a hard task. Ayurvedic treatment can be a savior in such situations. It can increase the chances of natural conception or the success rate of Artificial Reproductive Techniques through its medicines, Panchakarma, and lifestyle and diet changes.
How can Ayurveda help?
Ayurveda holds that there are four essential factors necessary for conception. These include seed (oocyte and sperm), water (nutrition), season (fertile period), and soil (reproductive track).
Ayurvedic treatments take care of these in the following ways-
- Purifying reproductive organs
- Increasing egg and sperm quality
- Regularizing the body’s metabolism
- Improving endometrium lining and receptivity
- Maintaining hormonal equilibrium
- Relieving stress
Here is how Ayurveda increases the success rate of Artificial Reproductive Techniques through its medicines, Panchakarma, and lifestyle and diet changes.
Ayurvedic medicines
Ayurvedic medicinal preparations and herbs nourish the female and male reproductive organs; maintain the biological clock of menstruation; rectify the hormonal imbalances; and enable the production of healthy and potent ovum and sperm. All these ultimately result in a healthy pregnancy.
Panchakarma
Panchakarma is the Ayurvedic term for detoxification. Ayurveda uses various detoxification procedures like Vaman, Nasya, Virechan, Uttarbasti, Basti, using its different formulations. These formulations are made according to the cause of infertility and IVF failure, and the patient’s body constitution. Further, it detoxes your mind by relieving stress, using body and head massages, steam baths, and Shirodhara (gently pouring liquids over forehead).
Diet
Ayurvedic treatment requires that its patients adhere to a strict diet rule specified by it. For, Ayurveda believes that the proper food can sufficiently nourish the reproductive organs.
Lifestyle modification
Today, infertility is increasingly becoming a lifestyle disease. Ayurvedic treatment guides its infertility patients to modify their lifestyle as per the seasonal variations (Rutucharya) and their body constitution (Dinacharya). It demands that you avoid cigarette tobacco, smoking, and alcohol; and teaches you various exercises for a healthy lifestyle.
