ICSI And Ayurveda Approach To Male Infertility

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection or ICSI for short is one of the artificially assisted techniques to induce conception. This procedure is suggested when the man has a lower sperm count or has poor quality sperm which is unable to fertilise the egg due to motility issue. Sometimes, men who have higher antibodies in the semen cannot father a child because the sperm movement is obstructed by the antibodies. This procedure is suggested in such a scenario.

The sperm and eggs are extracted but the sperm is injected into the egg by the embryologist to aid fertilisation. This procedure removes the necessity for the sperm’s motility and penetration to be good. In an otherwise natural scenario, if the sperm has no ability to penetrate the egg, it is rejected. Even after this procedure, the fertilisation events must proceed at the cellular level for the production of a healthy embryo.

In Ayurveda, unless the man has a congenital disorder affecting the semen production, the Shukra kshaya can be reversed by use of potent herbs like Ashwagandha and Shilajit. The herbal mish-mash not only helps restore the imbalanced Doshas but also provide vigour and vitality to a man. The disorder of the lowered sperm count can be battled easily with a change in eating habits. Some vegetables when included in diet help optimise the semen production by aiming to rejuvenate the malfunctioning organ. The failures in ICSI can be overcome naturally when one works to solve the root cause of the problem which is insufficient or poor quality semen production.
