Chlamydia

Chlamydia can cause pain when peeing, pelvic pain in women, bleeding in the vaginal area during and after sex, pain in the testicles, and pus coming out of the vaginal area or penis.

Gonorrhea is usually marked by green or yellow discharge from the vaginal or penile area and pain when peeing.

HIV

The first signs of HIV can show up 2 to 6 weeks after sexual activity, and they generally last about 2 weeks. However, not everyone will have these symptoms.

HIV signs include flu-like symptoms like fever, sore throat, headaches, and achy muscles or joints, as well as a red rash on the body.

Because HIV can’t be cured, medicines have been made that lengthen life and ease symptoms. This means that after the original symptoms go away, you shouldn’t have any more STD symptoms.

Genital Herpes

If you get the STD Genital Herpes during sexual action, you usually start to feel sick 4–7 days later, but it can happen months or even years later. In fact, when they are first infected, most people don’t have any signs at all.

For Genital Herpes, the most common symptoms are small, painful blisters around the genital area, pain when peeing, and tingling or itching around the genital area.

Human Papillomavirus Infection

Most HPV viruses are spread when two people touch each other. A cut or scrape on the skin is how the virus gets into the body. This can happen during anal and vaginal sex, as well as when two people have sexual contact. Even after they have been cleaned, sex toys can still have HPV on them.

How soon should I get tested for STDs after unprotected sex?

We would suggest waiting at least 14 days after unsafe sex to schedule a private STI test to give the infection time to spread. The incubation phase is the time between getting the virus and your body’s antibodies starting to fight it. If the antibodies don’t have time to form and you get tested before the incubation period is over, the test will show a fake negative.

Summary

Even though STDs aren’t always passed on every time you have sex, we still wouldn’t recommend taking the chance.

STDs can also be passed on through oral sex, kissing, or even just touching. Using contraception like a condom can stop STDs from spreading infections through bodily fluids, but this is not a 100% effective way to prevent STDs.

To take care of your physical health, it’s important to find and treat STDs as soon as possible. Even though it’s important not to test for STDs too early, knowing how long the most common infections take to show symptoms can help you decide when to see a doctor.

If you have a bacterial, viral, or parasitic STD and test positive for it, getting treatment can help lower the risk of long-term health problems.
