People who are involved sexually with more than one partner are at risk of contracting STDs. Any sexual act where you are in contact with the vaginal or seminal fluids will put you at risk of contracting an STD. When you suffer from an infection inflammation or painful genitals along with visible symptoms may be present. Listed below are the three types of STD and the commonly prescribed drugs to tide over the infection. The side effects of these drugs may make you think again before popping them.
Chlamydia
This infection does not show symptoms until it has affected the important reproductive organs. Painful intercourse, burning while urinating are just a few symptoms which may show up. The treatment for this infection requires one to consume oral antibiotics like Ceftriaxone, Rocephin, Azithromycin, or Doxycycline. In severe cases when the infection has culminated into PID, penicillin is also given to treat it. The side effects to these drugs may give you gallstones, body rash, abdomen pain, headaches, nausea or impaired liver.
Epididymitis
In men, it occurs due to inflammation in the epididymis. Fever, chills and painful genitals are some of the symptoms of this disease. It is usually treated using Rocephin or Ceftriaxone tablets. This drug is known to cause gallstones when used excessively.
Syphilis
Since Syphilis is a bacterial infection it can spread to every internal organ and culminate into a highly dangerous condition. Hence, Penicillin is used to treat this condition once diagnosed. Penicillin may affect liver functioning, give body rash or cause seizures.
