Asthenospermia is a condition wherein reduced sperm motility causes the sperm count to fall below normal. Sometimes, a man may have a healthier sperm count but due to poor motility the fertilisation process is hindered and hence conception efforts fail. Sperm motility tests are not performed in every routine diagnosis. Hence, if the sperm count is normal, the condition of Asthenospermia is sometimes not diagnosed unless a sperm analysis is performed. Motility grades are given according to the ability of the sperm to move ahead faster and also in a set pattern which determines its capacity to reach the egg and fertilize it. The only option recommended for such cases is the ICSI procedure.

Sperm motility according to Ayurveda is a factor which is affected due to poor functioning of the reproductive organs. Ayurveda studies the male fertility according to an analysis of semen for physical characters such as the consistency, colour, etc. When the semen produced is inadequate in standard as mentioned in the ancient texts, Ayurveda aims to bring balance to the primary organ which is responsible for the production of the semen.

The branch of Ayurveda recommends toxic elimination before giving the herbal medicines to increase the receptive power of the reproductive organs. Hence, the cleansing and rejuvenating techniques of the Ayurveda may work wonders on the important organs in the body. Rasayana, dravya or churna is prescribed as per your body’s ability to digest and absorb the nutrients. Seek expert advise at the right time to avoid wasted fertile cycles of your partner.
