As a matter of fact, students in all levels, right from kindergarten to graduate level & beyond feel stressed out. Stress is a term used to refer the response that you tend to have while facing circumstances. It my compel you to adjust, change or act in a particular way to balance things. When faced with stress, your body responds to a particular demand. This can be due to both bad & good experiences. Stress can prove to be enjoyable & healthy if availed in the correct dose. But for students, stress can damage their health, if it is in excessive. Stress may harm your happiness, health, overall personal development, relationship & performance in studies & career. You need to know how to deal with stress the right way.
Causes
School children may face stress in various forms. It can be due to mismatch between teacher & student, bullies, not being in same class like friends, concerns with not having good friends, over-scheduling extra-curricular activities, not being able to give quality time to family, etc. It can also be due to peer pressure, poor diet, noise pollution, lack of preparation for the exam, etc. The other main causes cited for stress among students is new school, college or university environment, newly formed relations, fee payment, competitive circumstances, lack of appropriate time management strategies, exams, parental pressure, etc.
Tips to manage stress
You need to design an organization system for note taking, to track important papers & assignments.
Have better knowledge of time management. You need to establish proper routine & study schedule and break studies into very small chunks. You can take help of your parents or teachers to prepare your timetable and follow them sincerely.
Find out you appropriate learning style, be it auditory, kinaesthetic or visual. Personalize your study practices to accommodate your specific learning style. This will help you to overcome stress and also achieve success.
Come up with proper study environment. Few students may prefer to have a room free from all distractions and others might prefer to have light music playing in the background. Select the one that fits your needs the best.
Do use relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, imagery/visualization or deep breathing.
Following the above will help you to be optimistic & do away with stress. Also, you can perform better in your studies.
